Course Description
The
course is comprised of 7 online self-paced modules and 108 hours of clinical
experience. Didactic and clinical instruction addresses basic competencies for
medical-surgical nursing as they apply to the holistic care of adult clients
seen primarily in the acute care setting. Online instruction is provided
through required readings, case studies, virtual clinical experiences, online
written assignments, and web link content review. The online portion of the
course is an independent study designed to be completed online within 1 year.
Students may start the course at any time after registration and fees are
received.
Once
the online learning segment is complete, students may choose to contract with their
local area clinical settings to serve as sites for the preceptor clinical
experience component of the course. Requirements to participate in a clinical
experience include an active unrestricted RN license, up to date CPR
certification, and proof of immunization(s). Additional requirements for
participation will be determined by the individual hospital or health care
institution. Hospital mandated orientation time does not count toward the 108
hours of clinical practice. The College will do everything possible to help you
secure a preceptor and clinical experience; however clinical placement is not a
guaranteed component of the course. It is recommended that clinical
arrangements are secured prior to starting the didactic portion of the course.
